How to use this time card calculator

A time card calculator is the weekly punch sheet U.S. hourly workers and small payrolls actually use: seven days, in and out, unpaid breaks, and an optional second punch pair for split shifts. Overnight clock-outs (nights that end after midnight) add 24 hours so 22:00 to 06:00 counts as 8 hours before the break.

Federal FLSA overtime is weekly, not daily: hours over 40 in the workweek are OT at 1.5× unless a contract or state rule is richer. California-style daily OT lives on the Overtime Calculator. Leave wage at 0 if you only need hours.

Formula

Each shift hours = clock-out − clock-in (plus 24h if overnight) − unpaid break. Day total = shift 1 + shift 2. Weekly overtime = max(0, total − threshold). Gross = regular × wage + OT × wage × multiplier.

Worked example

Monday–Friday 9:00–17:00 with a 30-minute unpaid lunch is 7.5 hours × 5 = 37.5 hours. At $20/hr with OT after 40, that is $750 regular and $0 overtime.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours on a time card?

Subtract clock-in from clock-out, add 24 hours if the shift crosses midnight, then subtract unpaid break minutes. This tool does that for each day and totals the week.

Does a 30-minute lunch count?

Only if it is unpaid. Enter 30 in the break column. Paid lunches should be 0.

What about a second shift the same day?

Use 2nd clock in/out. The second punch pair does not subtract another break—put all unpaid minutes in the break field.

Is overtime after 40 hours?

That is the default FLSA weekly rule. Change “Weekly overtime after” if your policy is different.

Can I print my time card?

Yes. Use Print results on the result panel.
